There is nothing wrong with having good work ethic or adhering to the ideal of hard work, but a time for physical and mental recuperation is also important. Vacations can offer the necessary therapeutic relieve from the mental and physical rigors associated with many professions. Vacations should not be viewed as optional. On the contrary, they should be seen as mandatory. Vacations have many medical, psychological, emotional and social benefits. Those who take vacations are less likely to develop coronary heart problems. They are also more psychologically and emotionally stable. Vacations create an opportunity to interact with the significant people in your live. There are relationships that are priceless, and all the financial gains and career successes cannot compensate for the absence of these relationships. All these benefits translate into enhanced productivity. Workaholics are not always the most productive. As a matter fact, the lack of rest diminishes their productivity. The most productive are those who work smart not those who work hard. And taking time out to recuperate is working smart. To improve productivity, preserve mental and physical health, and build a balanced social life, a one month vacation is recommended in every calendar year. Vacationing should be a lifestyle not just a random occurrence.

The long hours spent in traffic, the information technology and telecommunication challenges, the stringent deadlines and the infrastructural deficiencies are some of the odds that make the lives of professionals hectic. The irony however is that few professionals take time to reverse the toll of this hectic lifestyle.
